I agree with almost everything written here.

I think they have shown they can compete at the highest level (at least in the NFC) with a dominating win at Carolina and on the road at Cincy. Also showed a lot of heart coming back to beat Pittsburgh.

There must be something in the water near Northside drive because there are a lot of parallels to Chan Gailey's tenure and Mora's tenure. Speckled with Big-Time W's and season crippling, head-scratching losses to inferior teams.

Bottom line is that if these guys can figure out a way to beat teams that they should beat (at least on paper) and go .500 against better opponents (like they have done) then it should be a playoff team, maybe an NFC South winner.

I think it does hinge heavily on Abraham coming back healthy. With the news that Mathis is out for year (career) then this secondary is dangerously thin to go along with being dangerously terrible. We could really use another Chris Cash-type midseason signing, someone that can play solid and physical football. If Abraham is out and there is no pressure from the front 4 (Rod Coleman, where are you?) then you are going to see Omare Lowe and Jason Webster chasing down a lot of receivers from behind. You can't tell me that there is not a better CB sitting on someone's practice squad than #27. If you recall last year when Hall was hurt for the last few games and we signed that FA corner to start (help me with the name) - teams still went directly at #27 play after play after play. That tells you something. It also tells you something about Mora, Jr. and his stubbornness because that is "his guy".

Undersized LB's are another problem you didn't hit on, they hurt us against the run, especially the first 6 yards before Crocker and Milloy get there.

I don't know what to think at this point, I watched the Lions game again last night (i wasn't watching that MNF matchup). Upon further review, #7 really threw the ball well all game minus 1 terrible interception. I thought he threw it as accurately as he has the last 2 weeks. But when Alge starts dropping passes its going to be a long day. Roddy White needs to be sat and re-evaluated, he plays with a deathly fear of being hit. Jenkins is just blah and inconsistent. He seems slow out there, but yet he rarely goes over the middle. Since the offense has been unshackled (noticeably throwing on 1st down and throwing on 3rd and 5ish) #7 has been the least of our problems.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
