My gut tells me...

Italy 2, Czech Republic 0
USA 1, Ghana 1

Italy and Ghana progress. I hope I'm wrong, but in my heart of hearts, I believe that Italy and Ghana are the two best sides in the group (at least as the Czechs are presently constituted without a healthy striker).

Minus that sketchy penalty kick, you are a prediction god.

What the heck was Bruce thinking? A 4-5-1 in a game the U.S. has to win? Leaving Eddie Johnson, the freshest American player, on the bench until the 60th minute? Ridiculous.

I think the "communist" charge is unfair. Since when has a commie country ever actually done anything in soccer? Heck, the England fans sing "God Save the Queen" at their games. Marx wouldn't have dug that.

Compare European soccer, which is a completely free market in which the richest teams can purchase the best players, and the NFL, which is a perfect illustration of a command economy in which choice is stringently limited, and then get back to us on whether soccer is for socialists. Or just ask Silvio Berlusconi, right-wing former PM in Italy and owner of AC Milan.

Apparently, you never got to see Vinne Jones play.
