Michigan against the Defending National Champions

In my never-ending quest to compare and contrast my homestate team and my alma mater, this post from the Georgia Sports Blog got me thinking about Michigan's record against the defending national champions (as measured by the media and/or coaches polls, starting in 1936):

2007 - Michigan 41 Florida 35
2003 - Michigan 35 Ohio State 21
1992 - Michigan 38 Washington 31
1989 - Notre Dame 24 Michigan 19
1988 - Miami 31 Michigan 30
1984 - Michigan 22 Miami 14
1978 - Michigan 28 Notre Dame 14
1975 - Oklahoma 14 Michigan 6
1969 - Michigan 24 Ohio State 12
1966 - Michigan State 20 Michigan 7
1961 - Minnesota 23 Michigan 20
1958 - Ohio State 20 Michigan 14
1955 - Ohio State 17 Michigan 0
1953 - Michigan State 14 Michigan 6
1945 - Michigan 7 Ohio State 3
1943 - Michigan 45 Ohio State 7
1942 - Minnesota 16 Michigan 14
1941 - Minnesota 7 Michigan 0

Michigan's record is 8-10 overall, but 6-3 since hiring Bo Schembechler (the self-servingly titled "modern era" according to Michigan fans).

Awesome research. 6-3 against defending champs since '69 is very impressive.

"1988 - Miami 31 Michigan 30"

This might be my very first memory in the big house. I was 5 years old and balling my eyes out at the end of that game. Also vividly recall another Florida team armed with LeRoy Butler coming in and laying it down a few years later.

Thankfully many more good memories outweigh those.

You must mean Florida State. Florida is 0-2 all-time against Michigan.
